本種は本州～九州、伊豆諸島から記録があるが、全国的に広く分布すると思われる。成虫は3～5月にシダ類を含め様々な植物に見られる。三浦半島では特にアオキの花や新葉に多い。海外では全北区に広く分布する。また、本種は北米ではナシやサトウカエデの害虫として知られるが、日本では農作物の害虫としての記録はないようである。

This species is widely distributed in the Holarctic region. In Japan, it has been recorded from Honshu to Kyushu and Izu Islands. It occurs on many kinds of the plants including ferns in March to May, especially on the flowers and young leaves in the Miura-peninsula. In Japan this species is not recognized as crop pest although it is known as pest of pear and sugar maple in the northern states of USA and Canada.
